But female fans make sexualized stuff all the time, too. And Naoko Takeuchi herself drew very sexualized artwork of her characters.
And, once again, I honestly don’t see ANY need to get alarmed because there’s zero indication that what happened with MLP will happen to Sailor Moon. There have been plenty of shows aimed at girls that have come out since the Brony phenomenon emerged and none of them have had anything like Bronies. Sailor Moon has never had Bronies, either, so why should now be any different?
My biggest problem with people getting afraid about a potential Brony invasion is that, to them, it justifies berating, insulting, and basically just being assholes to male fans who speak up about something. I keep seeing female fans who think that they’re “protecting” the fandom by being mean and hostile to male fans. But the problem is that these fans aren’t new Brony types, they’re usually guys who have loved Sailor Moon since their childhood or teen years and are now being insulted for liking such a “girly” show all over again. I really cannot stress this point enough:
"Protecting" Sailor Moon and its fandom from Bronies DOES NOT justify you being a total asshole to other fans because they’re the "wrong" gender and because they might do something that you don’t like.
Plus, I’ve noticed that Bronies have been really unfairly vilified on this site. I know that there are a lot of gross Bronies, but you need to remember that they’re a very large and diverse group. The way people on Tumblr speak of them, you’d think that they were a group of cultists who murdered babies and puppies or something.
I’m sorry if this seems like I’m bashing you personally, because I’m definitely not; I’m just so tired of seeing people using Sailor Moon to justify being cruel to other people.
